rap doesn't have any substance anymore. rap has always been about egos and flaunting wealth but now the genre has become so over-saturated with songs about sipping lean, popping a xan, and fucking bitches that the overall intelligence of rap has stooped to an all time low. That is not necessarily a bad thing though, because it's what the youth wants. thats why old heads are constantly calling new gen rappers trash, since lyricism is generally overlooked and its easier to appreciate something that sounds good then something that you have to analyze like a dope bar. This generation of rap heavily relies on production and adlibs too. The rapper is only as good as his beats and most hits today are recognized more for their beats than their lyrics, (Gucci Gang, Mask Off, Bad n Boujee, XO Tour Llife) etc. lots of popular songs have one or two lines that have catchy lyrics and a good melody that sticks with people in their heads.

New gen rap is also boosted by the insane amount of wannabe edgy white teenagers who dickride their favorite rappers to the point where white people are starting to act ghetto just because of their favorite artists. There's multiple instances of white artists getting caught faking a ghetto accent (BhadBhabie, Post Malone, Yung Pinch, G-Eazy) etc just because its cool and sounds better. Acting ratchet and hood has been proven to sell so everyone is implementing hard trap beats with crazy dialect like 6ix9ine to make hit songs that they know will do numbers.
With that being said tho, the only people you can blame for a trash artist blowing up are your friends and people around you. They directly support them every time they stream a song. Half the people who say Gucci Gang is a disgrace to music lowkey bump it by themselves and know all the words when it comes on but they dont show it. Same with lots of awful songs with catchy parts.
