How do you trust that the companies who made this hardware wallet don't directly target your coins.. Since they're solely made for the purpose of protecting your coins?

Hardware wallet companies (for example Ledger) don't store my coins. They are 'stored' on the blockchain.

Only I can access my coins (in my case it is Bitcoin) with my private keys. The hardware wallet company does not have my private keys. Because as the name says, these are private and only I know them. :)

a hardware wallet stores the keys. And with the hardware wallet you can access your coins

depends on how much coins ur planning to store
but Ledger is very good yes.
and dont be scared of losing your coins. the only way u can lose your coins is by losing ur private keys.

the chance of losing ur coins on for example coinbase is way higher than on a hardware wallet
